8 - 12 Week
CERTIFICATION COURSE
This program is designed to teach a fresh approach to working with our clients through recovery from addiction. Whether that addiction be drug, alcohol, nicotine, gambling, sex, food, internet...Mindfulness is a tool that can fit anyone...all the time.
Most models for addition recovery are centered around a "disease-based" model, using mindfulness, we take a more "spiritual-based" approach while also including a very strong scientific knowledge of the power of the mind to change.
The very nature of addiction is repeating behavior that is harmful, painful, and limiting. The addicted life becomes a habit. Stopping at the casino, the liquor store, the fast-food joint. Picking up that cigarette that you knew is going to kill you. Repeating the same old behavior that damages your relationships. The
habit seems unbreakable.
The truth is the addiction has the person stuck in a cycle. As a Mindful Addiction Coach, we can share the tools our client needs to break the grip of the habit/addiction by "turning the mind". Modern science shows us more about addiction than we have ever known before but most of us are stuck in programs that were designed decades ago. Those recovery programs have helped millions but there's also another way, or additional way to approach addiction. But understanding how the brain functions, we can take an empowering approach with our clients. Empowering them to TRANSFORM THEIR LIVES.
Basically, we have this built in reward system in the brain that we call the "reward pathway". We do normal healthy things like eat, have sex, do something that makes us happy and the mind releases the hormone dopamine and we feel good. That good feeling drives us to want to do those things again. Drugs, alcohol, gambling and other behaviors hijack that reward pathway and cause our brain to release that dopamine as if we were experiencing great pleasure and our mind makes us want to do it again and again.
This is how the addiction takes over our most natural and normally pleasurable experiences causing us to want to keep doing those things, even though we know they aren't good for us. The addiction takes over our healthy "reward system" and tells us we need that substance or action or device in order to survive.
The worst part is we are convinced we need that habit in order to function, or be happy, or even survive. Eventually we feel stuck and hopeless, but even that hopelessness is a trick of the mind, it's just a thought.
Mindfully we know recovery happens, right now because we have the ability to change. Science shows us we have the ability to change the structure of the mind. With neuroplasticity we have the ability to rewire that reward pathway.
Through mindfulness we can do AMAZING things. What was once rigid becomes agile. What was once limiting can be limitless. What once seemed impossible becomes probable. Mindfulness means we awaken a new curiosity and rediscover that why? Why do we do the things we do? It means we open ourselves up to accept where we are and discover that we are never stuck. It means being present to what is right now rather than being stuck in what was.
The amazing thing is there is a calm to the practice. There is a Freedom in the practice. There is a sense of wonder and a rediscovery. We eliminate the labels of most addiction programs, we stop allowing ourselves to be defined by the past actions, habits and addictions and start being defined by the NOW.
The old saying...the definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is true. Our approach is we discover new behaviors and repeat them over and over, being open minded to the process and discovering a clarity in the truth that "WHAT YOU PRACTICE GROWS STRONGER".
The Mindful Recovery & Addiction Coach Program is designed to teach Coaches, Practitioners, Teachers, and Counselors how to bring the practice of mindfulness into their practice/program.
